Your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) can provide a tax-smart way to make a donation in support of our mission.
The Qualified Charitable Distribution or QCD (sometimes called an “IRA Charitable Rollover”) is a great way to make a tax-free gift now to and satisfy your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD).
The Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) offers multiple benefits for making gifts from your IRA with the following requirements:
- You must be 70½ years or older at the time of the gift.
- Gifts must be transferred directly from your IRA to the qualified tax-exempt charitable organization.
Benefits of Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD):
- QCD offers all of the benefits of an itemized income tax charitable deduction.
- If you are age 73 or older and must take a Required Minimum Distribution RMD, a QCD gift can satisfy your RMD without increasing your income taxes.
- It is a wonderful way to create an immediate impact in the lives of clients served by the St. Louis Society for the Blind and Visually Impaired
To make a qualified charitable distribution gift, contact your IRA administrator to initiate the process. For additional information, please contact Mike Higgins, VP of Development, mhiggins@biostl.org or call 314-775-1564.
A charitable gift through your estate continues your legacy of generosity in caring for the needs of our community.
If your estate is subject to estate tax, a contribution through your estate plan generates a charitable estate tax deduction which may result in substantial tax savings. You may direct all or a portion of your estate to support BioSTL.
Many donors make legacy gifts through beneficiary designations in their wills. Charitable trusts, retirement plan accounts, life insurance policies and donor advised funds are additional ways to make beneficiary designations.
These gifts include bequests, beneficiary designations, dedicated gifts, and charitable gift remainders.
To discuss legacy gift opportunities, please contact Mike Higgins, VP of Development, mhiggins@biostl.org or call 314-775-1564.
